What makes a Future Friendly School? Through this participatory process, you will help to identify and prioritize the most relevant indicators for certification across our three focus areas of environmental stewardship, student voice, and global citizenship. We appreciate your participation and look forward to your insights! This page is for voting, commenting on, and suggesting new indicators in the area of global citizenship. You can switch to the other certification indicators through the links in the header. If you’re interested in partnership or participating as a founding school in the program, contact us at education@takingitglobal.org!

  1. Inclusive learning environement. Self-awarness. Discovery of talents.

Rather then imposing a pre-conceived curriculum, learning in a project based approach would be more motivating and would not associate a student with a grade, rather, with his level of accomplishment. The necessary knowledge and competence would be inter-wounded and necessary for the completion of each project and student would pass to the next when ready. There should be inclusive learning environments , where students can identify their talents and put more effort in developing these. Here the teacher would play the role a mentor, guiding the student who is self-aware of the importance of his role as global citizen…

  3. School gardens/farms

FFS should have gardens or farms directly associated with the school, locally ON campus, where students work with the land and their own food.

Food from the farm is used in the cafeteria. It's organic, healthy, local, seasonal, beautiful.

  4. Learning is measured with an established tool such as "The Global Competence Matrix". Students take responsiblity. More than read/discusss

This has to more than a chapter-by-chapter exercise. There must be several elements that ask students to set up social networks with peers from other countries within a specified context so that the learning that takes place can be measured. Teacher sets up project, teacher guides, students do, students act.

  5. Schools should offer programs that become self sustainable after a period of time to encourage local teacher development and student base.

The WVS offers 400+ courses that encourage sustainability of its programs by involving students in teaching other students, so that after a while they can become self-sustaining and motivating. Has become very important in clean energy and sustainable living programs in helping communities improve their quality and standard of living.

  7. Working on softer skills like: communication and dialogue, self esteem, tolerance to other ideas, management of emotions, self-awareness.

Working on softer skills like: communication and dialogue, self esteem, tolerance to other ideas, respect, empathy, management of emotions, self-awareness. They are not always taught at home, and in fact it would seem that they are actually discouraged by todays culture. However, they form the basic skills for human being s to understand each other and find common solutions.

  11. Exchanging learning experiences while locally engaging and global connecting of education centers to fulfill multidisciplinary activities

Establish a research/training centre to fulfill multidisciplinary outreach activities with the participation of both the academic staff and students would enable to explore the curriculum and class work in more practical manner rather than theoretical perspective. This will establish linkages between universities/colleges and industry and will orient students to experience a diverse study and research environment. As soon as they complete the course works they are capable of facing to the job hunting and building their own lives more quicker than the normal student.

  12. Global Citizenship to help students learn about different cultures as they really are not how they are perceived.

Many times we imagine how people live in certain countries by what we have read about in some article or seen in a picture. Global Citizenship can give us the opportunity to actually talk to someone from a certain country and learn from them directly as to how they really live and what there country is really like.

  16. "Education for self-reliance"I think this will be helpful in eradicating unemployment problem and reduce rate of dependents.

Education should focus much on building student's creativities on solving existing problems facing society both in theory and practical.I always feels pains to see science students get access of laboratory while those who take arts subjects lacks ,the teachers should tells students particular art students where is their laboratory and of-course it is the community.

  20. Don't let school's canteen sells more food with styrofoam!

There are some schools in my country, especially my school, its canteen sells more food with styrofoam than food packed in healthy way. In fact, styrofoam has been the most dangerous litter because it contains a substance that can produce cancers virus. Besides, it is also the kind of litter that cannot be recycled for a very long time. And it makes the students hard to live in healthy and green way.
