3E's Sustainable Schools: Environment, Economy, Equity
Future friendly schools should be designed, constructed and administered according to the 3E's of Sustainability on the international level; protecting environments, preserving economy and promoting equity. These 3 indicators are sufficient to make future schools friendly on the local, regional and international levels. Global Citizenship is achieved through successful Local Leadership.

Long term relationship with other schools, for the purposes of curriculum collaboration, student exchange, service learning, etc.
Global schools should strive to cultivate "sister school" relationships with 3-4 other schools in the world. These schools become like family, allowing deep curricular collaboration, student exchanges, service learning trips, etc. It's best if there are a variety of different types of global schools (rural vs. urban, developing countries vs. developed, Spanish vs. French vs. Swahili vs. Mandarin, etc.)

Learning is measured with an established tool such as "The Global Competence Matrix". Students take responsiblity. More than read/discusss
This has to more than a chapter-by-chapter exercise. There must be several elements that ask students to set up social networks with peers from other countries within a specified context so that the learning that takes place can be measured. Teacher sets up project, teacher guides, students do, students act.

Actually, the term "citizenship" itself should be reconsidered.
Building a boundaryless/borderless world where the term "citizenship" is replaced with a term suited for a 21st century society no subject to old styled patterns of global governance, politics, religion, nationality, race, or gender.
